Texas DPS Eligibility & Requirements
You must be 16 years and older. You will also need to have your permit for at least 6 months
You cannot test the same day of your License Operator Front Seat (LOFS). Your LOFS date, found on the back of your permit, will need to be dated before your test date and the permit will need to be held through midnight of the date of the test.
It is required that you completed 32 hours of driving theory in order to get your license.
It is required to complete 7 hours of driving and 7 hours observing peers in order to get your license. Please make sure you have done this.
You read that correctly. Even if you are 18 years or older you are required to have completed the minors drivers education course and a parent/legal guardian is required.
Planning on going to the DPS right after your test? Please make sure you have Verification of Enrollment (VOE) form or High School Diploma (If under 18 years of age).
The original certificate is required if you took the theory and behind the wheel with the same provider.
Two original certificates are required if you took the theory at one provider and behind the wheel at a different provider.
The Impact Course
You will need to complete the IMPACT Texas Teen Two Hour Course in order to take the DPS Roat Test. This is required not only for Ayala Driving School but it’s required even at the DPS.
Students between 18 and 24 years of age. If you completed the Minors Drivers Education Course (DE-964 Certificate), you still will be required to complete the IMPACT Course. Parent or guardian is also required for the Texas drivers license test.
